Eagle Scout Candidate Daniel Crone Completes Work on
New Potting Shed for Community Garden
January 4, 2015
Eagle Scout Candidate Daniel Crone of Fox Island's Troop 27
completed work recently on a new potting shed for the
Fox Island Community
Garden, as his Eagle Service Project. The shed was donated by a
fellow gardener, and Daniel & his crew of helpers reconstructed it
on the garden site.

finishing touches on his Eagle Scout service project. |
Scouts from Fox Island's Troop 27, led by Eagle
Scout candidate Ian Nation, recently built a new deer fence
to expand the footprint of the Fox Island Community Garden.
The expansion adds an additional 45' x 70' plot to the
popular garden, which provides gardening space for Island
residents who do not have sufficient space in their own
yards for gardening.
|
The expansion project includes a new 1600 square foot garden
plot to the East of the existing garden. Work included
erecting a deer fence around the new garden plots, and
trimming sod around the edge of the new space.

Troop 27 Eagle Scout Builds Raised Beds
|
|
|
Colin Rivera, Troop 27's
twelfth Eagle Scout, passed
his board of review on August 12, 2013. He is the first Scout in Troop 27 to
complete his Eagle Scout requirements in 2013.
His Eagle Scout project consisted of building raised bed
garden boxes for the Fox Island Community Garden. |
On August 12, 2013, Colin
Gregory Rivera became the 12th Eagle Scout in
Fox Island
Troop 27's short history.
For Rivera's Eagle Service
project, he collaborated with members of the Fox Island
Community Garden, formerly known as the "Fox Island Pea
Patch", where he constructed six new raised bed planter
boxes. The Garden is used by Fox Islanders with limited
gardening space, to grow vegetables, fruits and berries, and
to help provide Island residents with an enhanced,
sustainable gardening space to grow nutritious organic food
for their family meals.
A portion of the vegetables
grown there were provided to area food banks. He
completed his project in the Spring of 2013, just in time
for the planting season. Claudia Gustafson of the Gardening
group, commented that the boxes were warmly received by the
gardeners, and produced a bumper crop of produce in the
summer months of 2013. Special thanks to Ace Hardware
and Pro-Build of Gig Harbor, for donating a portion of the
materials for the project. |
|
Several
months later, the fruits of Colin's labors are enjoyed by Fox Island's
community gardeners!
